Critical Care Services Ontario ensures Ontarians receive the best value from the critical care system by working with partners to make informed decisions with respect to resource allocation and future capacity investments.

The Critical Care Information System (CCIS) is Ontario’s most comprehensive database with respect to critical care resources and patients. Information on bed availability, critical care service utilization and patient outcomes provides guidance and support for decisions and policies made by stakeholders such as hospitals, LHINs, and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The provision of high value for money is critical to sustaining a viable critical care system. The application of tools such as CCIS ensures that available system resources can be determined to meet patient needs, and decisions around the allocation of new resources are data-driven. Competing priorities are resolved through the consideration of both a high standard of care and cost-effective and efficient delivery of care.
